The National Council on Aging created an online tool that helps seniors tap into billions of dollars in Benefits to help pay for healthcare, food and utilities.
The Benefits Check Up Tool helps people over 60 years old sift through over 2000 federal, state and private benefit programs they’re eligible for based on their financial situation and where they live.
The online tool was recently updated to include property-tax relief programs and for those that are behind on their mortgage payments.
The tool takes about 20 minutes to go through. You’ll need information on hand such as your income and expenses.
For example, a search for services for a single 75-year old man in MN, who owns their own home, has a gross income of $50,000 found services such as free housekeeping, free eye exam and local transportation as well as a property tax refund.
